Hal Köz Fountain to Remain Out of Order for Technical Reasons

Unlike the other public fountains in Debrecen scheduled to be put into operation in May, the fountain located in Hal köz will not be brought into service due to technical issues.

Despite continuous maintenance by specialist contractors, the fountain has experienced a level of technical deterioration that can only be remedied through a major, full-scale refurbishment involving demolition. According to operational experience, water leakage has been detected in the fountain’s pipe system; therefore, based on the technical assessment, it is not recommended to operate the fountain until a complete refurbishment has been carried out. Otherwise, there is a risk of subsidence of the structure.

The winter covering previously installed over the fountain basins will remain in place and can continue to be safely used as a pedestrian surface. The Mayor’s Office has begun preparing the technical specifications for the full refurbishment of the Hal köz fountain.
