Spring St Michael’s Day Fair to Return to Debrecen This Weekend
The St Michael’s Day Fair is one of Debrecen’s most colourful and popular events, attracting large crowds year after year. This special event is not only about shopping, but also a celebration of community experiences and traditions, evoking the spirit of centuries-old market trading in Debrecen while adapting to the needs of the modern age.
Beyond the traditional market goods, keen-eyed visitors can discover genuine curiosities, and no one will go hungry this year either, as the Street of Craftsmen will once again tempt visitors with a variety of delicious food.
The location remains unchanged: this year, the event will again be held on Böszörményi Road.
Road closures have been announced due to the St Michael’s Day Fair:
From 6:00 pm on 7 May 2026 until 5:00 am on 11 May:
Parking is prohibited on both sides of Doberdó Street – Kartács Street – József Dóczy Street.
Stopping and parking are prohibited on the section of Béla Békessy Street between Böszörményi Road and Görgey Street.
Stopping and parking are prohibited on both sides of József Attila Street between Kertváros Street and Böszörményi Road.
A one-way traffic system will be introduced on József Attila Street between Kertváros Street and Böszörményi Road, in the direction of Böszörményi Road.
From 6:00 pm on 8 May 2026 until 5:00 am on 11 May, the following roads in Debrecen will be closed to vehicular traffic:
Böszörményi Road from Doberdó Street to Füredi Road,
Béla Békessy Street from Böszörményi Road to Görgey Street,
Bolyai Street from Böszörményi Road to Jerikó Street,
Akadémia Street from Böszörményi Road to Kertváros Street – all motor vehicle traffic prohibited,
as well as the cycle path between Béla Békessy Street and Menyhárt József Square, where cycling will be prohibited.
Traffic from the affected sections will be diverted via Böszörményi Road – Doberdó Street – Kartács Street – József Dóczy Street – University Avenue – Füredi Road – Böszörményi Road and back.
The traffic diversion will also affect public transport services. During the above period, vehicles parked unlawfully on the closed sections will be removed at the owner’s expense.
