Lab Results Made Public for Coloured Liquid at CATL Debrecen Plant
As previously reported, a pressure test was recently carried out at CATL’s Debrecen plant, during which water dyed green was used and subsequently appeared on the surface. A civil report concerning the incident was submitted to the authorities on 5 May.
On Médiacentrum Debrecen’s Esti közelkép, disaster management spokesperson Nóra Papp-Kunkli first recalled that the disaster management mobile laboratory carried out measurements in the surrounding area on the same day, as there was heavy smoke in nearby areas and firefighters had been redirected from there with the primary task to take samples of the liquid and thereby rule out the presence of oil or any hazardous substance in it. With that established, there was no need to introduce any measures affecting the public.
The measurement data were uploaded to the website of the Hajdú-Bihar County Disaster Management Directorate, where anyone can view the measurements with which the mobile laboratory unit concluded the day. As stated in the report, it was determined that the liquid had a pH value of 7.8 — similar to water and therefore neutral — while its temperature was 18.4°C.
The available instruments detected neither hazardous substances nor oil derivatives, and no public protection measures were required on the part of the disaster management authority, according to the statement published on the website.
