Méliusz Talk Reveals the Legacy of a Famous Debrecen Merchant Family

An exciting slice of Debrecen’s past will come to life at the Méliusz Juhász Péter Library on Tuesday, 10 March, from 4 p.m. At the next occasion of Helytöri Club, the focus will be on the history of the city’s once well-known merchant family, the Benyáts family, and their famous shops.

The guests of the event will be two descendants of the family, Balázs Benyáts and Béla Tankó, who will present, through personal memories and family stories, the role the family played in the economic and social life of Debrecen.

The discussion will be moderated by Attila Tamás Vass, a staff member of the Local History Department of the library, who will help place the legacy of the Benyáts company into context from an expert perspective.

Participation in the programme is free of charge; however, in view of the expected high level of interest, the organisers ask those wishing to attend to register by email.
