New Participants Join Debrecen’s Visual Arts Festival
With cooperation among exhibition venues, civil organisations, educational institutions, art schools and private individuals, the Art Week contemporary visual arts festival is being held in Debrecen for the third time.
The aim of the initiative is for the city’s cultural actors to jointly showcase the diversity of contemporary art. An important element of Debrecen’s cultural strategy is to create series of events built on broad collaboration – an approach represented by Art Week, as stated at a press briefing on April 29.
“Between 14 and 17 May, visitors will be welcomed by exhibitions, special artistic projects and interactive programmes at 18 venues. These will include, for example, the presentation of the joint curatorial open call by MODEM and the Vojtina Puppet Theatre, where winning artists are preparing an exhibition that invites active audience participation. As new participants, the garment factory on Domb Street and the Department of Architecture at the University of Debrecen will also join the programme. The architecture programme of the University of Debrecen is very actively present in the life of the city, stepping outside the walls of the university. Recently, this activity has been particularly strong, which I am very pleased about,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás said.
