In Debrecen, Prime Minister’s Commissioner Advocates Schools That Are Good to Learn and Teach In
School principals can learn from each other and adopt good practices with the help of the mentor network that is now being launched.
Institutional leaders from Debrecen are also participating in the national program aimed at improving the quality of public education.
The principal mentor network called “Good Principal – Good School” held its event in Debrecen on November 7, 2025. At the event, the initiator of the program, the Prime Minister’s Commissioner Katalin Balatoni, emphasized that it is an important goal to have schools where it is good to learn and good to teach. School principals play a decisive role in this, as they can learn from each other and acquire good practices with the help of the mentor network.
Deputy Mayor Diána Széles said that the new nationwide program provides an opportunity for Debrecen’s directors to learn about practices in other counties. Leaders from other parts of the country can learn about Debrecen’s mutual support workshops.
“We are in a very special situation, as many operators have multiple schools under their control. They do not operate within a single system; rather, each operator manages their schools in their own way. That is why it is very important that we meet regularly in the education council and discuss current issues. This is how we generate cooperation,” she said.
On her social media page, she said that the Mentor Network Program, which supports cooperation between school principals and lets leaders of different institutions get to know each other’s work and share best practices, will be launched in every county. Debrecen sets an inspiring example for all schools in the county with its “Move, Debrecen!” school program and “The Power of Embrace” mental health prevention program. School leaders can count on our professional support. The Mentor Network Program is an excellent opportunity for principals to become not only good leaders but also true community builders.
