Schaeffler Becomes Title Sponsor of Debrecen’s Night Cycle Parade
In a statement issued on Monday, Schaeffler Hungary announced that, in addition to supporting motorsport and the development of young people’s skills, the motion technology company is also committed to sponsoring local cultural initiatives. This time, the company is joining Debrecen’s longest-standing community event by becoming the title sponsor of the Debrecen Flower Carnival’s evening cycle parade, contributing to the success of the event.
Schaeffler recalls that the history of the Debrecen Flower Carnival began in the early 1900s with the idea of a cycling race accompanied by a floral promenade. Following a break of several decades, the event returned in 1966 in the form that audiences across Hungary know today.
As the statement notes, cyclists have remained key participants throughout the years as the programme expanded into a multi-day festival. Whether leading the procession ahead of the flower floats or taking part in the evening cycle parade, which has become an unmissable feature in recent years, participants honour the founders of the city’s most important event on two wheels.
Throughout its history in Debrecen, Schaeffler has represented the company’s values at the Flower Carnival in a variety of ways. However, this is the first time the motion technology company has decided to sponsor the cycling event. “We are delighted to be part of this unique carnival atmosphere once again, this time in a new way. Schaeffler Night Ride perfectly reflects our commitment to sustainability and to promoting a healthy lifestyle. I am convinced that the event will provide a truly memorable experience for everyone taking part,” said Péter Szabó, Director of the Schaeffler Debrecen Campus, about the significance of the partnership.
One of the most atmospheric elements of the long-established event, which celebrates its 57th anniversary this year, the cycle parade sees thousands of illuminated bicycles take over roads in Debrecen that are normally busy with cars. Schaeffler’s employees in Debrecen will also join the large community of cyclists, helping to create the event’s distinctive atmosphere. As the opening event of the Flower Carnival, Schaeffler Night Ride will welcome the people of Debrecen and visitors on the evening of 18 August.
