Work Underway Simultaneously on Multiple Urban Sections of Route 33
Full-width resurfacing of Main Road 33 has also begun on Füredi Road in front of Malompark. Construction works on the section extending from Bem Square to the city boundary are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Until then, motorists should expect temporary traffic restrictions at certain locations along Füredi Road and Balmazújvárosi Road.
On Wednesday, workers installed new kerbstones on one side of Füredi Road between University Avenue and Nádor Street, while on the opposite side they milled away the worn asphalt surface. The entire wearing course of the carriageway is being replaced, and the refurbishment of the bus stop also forms part of the project. Due to the works, temporary lane closures are slowing traffic on the section in front of Malompark. Work is currently taking place in the outer traffic lanes between University Avenue and Nádor Street. As a result, the temporary bus stop known as “Malompark” in the direction of Bem Square has been closed until 7 a.m. on Friday.
In parallel with the road reconstruction, underground water utility infrastructure is also being upgraded: pipelines are being relined and gate valves replaced where necessary. Construction is taking place simultaneously on several sections of the nearly 2.5-kilometre urban stretch of Route 33, allowing the large-scale refurbishment project to progress more quickly. “The first phase will be completed this week, covering the section between Bem Square and University Avenue. It is already evident that the road has been reopened to traffic there, and the various road markings have been applied,” said Viktor Papp, head of the Fidesz–KDNP city council group.
The refurbishment of the Debrecen section of Route 33 is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Once the works have been finished, a safer and more modern stretch of road will serve the city’s traffic, increasing the capacity of this principal route.
