University of Debrecen Initiates Establishment of One of Three New Degree Programmes
Three new degree programmes could be introduced in higher education, while the master’s degree programme in Artificial Intelligence Computer Science could also be added to the official list of higher education programmes. Public consultation on the draft decree began on Monday.
The draft amendment to the Ministry of Innovation and Technology’s decree on the list of qualifications obtainable in higher education and the establishment of new programmes is available on kormany.hu along with the related documents. The three new programmes are higher education vocational programmes in organic farming and biotechnology, as well as a master’s degree programme for rehabilitation specialists.
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences initiated the establishment of two of the three programmes. The higher education vocational programme in organic farming aims to train professionals who, equipped with up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge, are able to operate sustainable, environmentally friendly agricultural and food production systems. Among other things, graduates will be qualified to establish and operate their own organic farms.
The agricultural sciences university also initiated the establishment of the master’s degree programme for rehabilitation specialists. Its aim is to train professionals capable of addressing losses in cognitive, social and everyday living skills resulting from ageing, illness or other causes, as well as retraining people in skills they have lost. Through their work, graduates will contribute to improving the quality of life of people in need, preventing further deterioration in their abilities, strengthening social relationships, and increasing the effectiveness of rehabilitation and care activities carried out within healthcare and social care systems.
The University of Debrecen requested the establishment of the higher education vocational programme in biotechnology. The programme will prepare professionals who can provide expert support for professional activities in biotechnology manufacturing, research, innovation and education, at companies, research institutes and higher education institutions, while also acquiring a solid foundation for further study. During the programme, students will gain comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and bioanalysis.
Another aim of the amendment is to add the master’s degree programme in Artificial Intelligence Computer Science to the official list of higher education programmes, in response to significant demand for the programme from society and the labour market. The deadline for the public consultation is 18 August.
