Road Reconstruction on Main Road No. 33
The Municipality of Debrecen is commencing road reconstruction works on Main Road No. 33. Prior to resurfacing on the affected sections, Debreceni Vízmű Zrt. will carry out pipeline lining works at the following locations:
- Füredi Road – Sinai Miklós Street junction
- Area surrounding 11 Balmazújvárosi Road
- Balmazújvárosi Road – Köntösgát Row junction
- Area surrounding 10 Balmazújvárosi Road (Water Production Plant I)
- Another section of the Balmazújvárosi Road – Köntösgát Row junction
The completion of the water utility reconstruction works is an essential prerequisite for the commencement of the road surface renewal project.
The first phases of the planned road reconstruction will begin on 18 June 2026 as follows:
• Section between Bem Square and Nádor Street (excluding the already refurbished University Avenue junction):
o Temporary bus stops will first be established, followed by the construction of bus stop platforms from 18 June.
o From 22 June, the two outer traffic lanes will be closed, where the concreting of the bus stops and the necessary kerb construction works will take approximately four to five weeks. This will be followed by milling of the wearing course in the kerbed area and the replacement of the binder course. Manhole covers will then be raised to the correct level, followed by the laying of the new wearing course. These works are expected to take a further one to two weeks.
o The next stage will involve the closure of the two inner traffic lanes, where milling and resurfacing works are expected to continue for an additional three weeks.
o The expected completion date for works on this section is September 2026.
• Construction works are expected to commence in early July 2026 on the section of Main Road No. 33 between Nádor Street and 94 Füredi Road:
o The section between Balmazújvárosi Road and 94 Füredi Road (which includes the complete reconstruction of the junction) can only begin once the contractor working at the Füredi Road – Csigekert Street – Szabó Lőrinc Street junction has fully reopened the area to traffic. This is expected in early July 2026.
o During the first phase of the works, Debreceni Vízmű Zrt. will begin lining the north-south pipeline serving Sinai Miklós Street and Füredi Road. The anticipated completion date is mid-August, after which reconstruction of the Balmazújvárosi Road and Nádor Street sections can commence.
o The expected completion date for works on the entire section is the end of 2026.
The reconstruction of the remaining road sections will be scheduled in accordance with the progress of the reconstruction works being carried out by Debreceni Vízmű Zrt.
The Municipality of Debrecen and Debreceni Vízmű Zrt. kindly ask road users for their patience and understanding. The aim of the investment is to provide a safer and more modern road corridor, with improved traffic capacity, once the works have been completed.
