Downtown DebrecenDebrecen’s peak festival season concludes in style with the 57th Debrecen Flower Carnival, which returns in a refreshed format, welcoming visitors for an entire week.
The highlight takes place on 20 August with the spectacular parade, featuring compositions made from hundreds of thousands of live flowers parading through the city.
This year’s carnival concept focuses on shaping the future and shared responsibility. The organisers aim not only to celebrate Debrecen but also to actively shape the city’s future, involving local communities, educational institutions, and generations of residents.
Main Highlight: Morning and Night Carnival Procession on 20 August
Morning Parade (7:30-11:30 a.m.)
Parade Route: Piac Street – Kossuth Square – Hatvan Street – Bethlen Street – Egyetem Avenue – Egyetem Square
Purpose-built grandstands along the route provide spectators with excellent viewing positions from which to enjoy the music and dance performances, admire the intricate floral floats and experience the vibrant atmosphere of the parade. Reserved seats on the grandstands along the parade route are available at the following prices:

The parade can also be viewed free of charge along the entire route, provided spectators remain behind the designated safety barriers.
Parking and Transport: Visitors arriving by car can use car parks located close to the parade route. Please note that the police will close all streets crossing the parade route from 6:00 a.m. onwards.
Floral Float Exhibition (1:30-6:30 p.m.)
The floral floats can be admired in their full splendour exclusively on 20 August, following the parade, at the exhibition on Nagyerdei Boulevard and in the northern event area of Great Forest Stadium. Throughout the afternoon, the stage at the Floral Float Promenade and Classic Car Exhibition will host a continuous programme of entertainment, including spectacular dance performances, artistic groups and live stage acts. Admission is HUF 3500 for adults and 2500 for students and seniors.
Night Parade (8:00-9:30 p.m.)
Parade Route: Rózsa Street – Kossuth Square – Hatvan Street – Bethlen Street – Egyetem Avenue – Őszirózsa köz
As night falls, the carnival atmosphere becomes even more spectacular, with floral floats parading along a shortened route from Rózsa Street to the Őszirózsa grandstand, illuminated by special decorative lighting.
The dance groups will perform in newly designed costumes created especially for the evening show, enhanced by striking visual effects that give the parade a completely different character after dark. Five grandstands along the shortened route provide comfortable reserved seating for spectators.

Community Space and Career Carnival | 18-22 August at Dósa nádor Square
International companies operating in Debrecen have become key contributors to the city’s economy and community life. This partnership is further strengthened through the creation of a shared cultural and business space, offering a welcoming meeting place with high-quality, family-friendly events and live concerts.
Over five days, the venue will be transformed into a vibrant hub of activities. It will host the community decoration of the City of Debrecen’s floral float, the programmes of the Green Civic Courtyard, and, for the first time, the spectacular Flower Flash Mob 2026. Visitors can enjoy a varied programme featuring performances by Hungarian and international artistic groups, alongside children’s concerts and interactive activities designed to entertain all ages.
Botanica Expo | 18-23 August at Kölcsey Centre
Botanica Expo returns for its fifth edition between 18 and 23 August as a vibrant centerpiece of the Flower Carnival. The aim is to bring nature closer to urban life, whether through unique cacti, carnivorous plants, minerals, or environmentally conscious lifestyles. The programme features educational talks, creative workshops, and spectacular demonstrations that are not only entertaining but also informative.
Beer by Lake | 18-23 August at Lake Békás
Beer by Lake is a culinary and cultural event dedicated to promoting high-quality beer culture and sophisticated entertainment. Bringing the spirit of the new-wave beer revolution to Eastern Hungary, the festival has become a unique meeting point for beer enthusiasts and festivalgoers.
Galiba Children’s Festival | 18-23 August downtown and at the Amusement Park
Eastern Hungary’s largest children’s festival welcomes families with unforgettable experiences at two locations. To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of István Csukás, the author’s iconic fairy-tale characters come to life through interactive programs, craft workshops, puppet shows, concerts, sports events, and dance performances, offering meaningful entertainment for every generation.
Schaeffler Night Ride | 7:30 PM, 18 August from Kossuth Square
One of the Flower Carnival’s most successful community events in recent years, Schaeffler Night Ride, returns with a brand-new route, offering cyclists an experience almost twice as long as before. The popularity of Schaeffler Night Ride continues to grow year after year, with increasing numbers of people joining the spectacular evening procession.
Galiba Children’s Parade | 5:00 PM, 19 August along Piac Street
Children’s flower floats will once again parade along Piac Street and can then be viewed in the Memorial Garden until August 23.
Carnival Fun Run | 7:30 AM, 20 August from Baltazár Dezső Square
The most exciting day of the Debrecen Flower Carnival, 20 August, once again kicks off with the most colourful run of the year. Runners will start from Baltazár Dezső Square, and after a joint countdown, the colourful powder flies into the air at the same time, and then the adventure run starts from under the huge colourful cloud. The 2.6-kilometre route follows the carnival path to University Square, where the enthusiastic cheers and support of the local community will be there to lift your spirits throughout the run.
